Electric Outboard Motor Safety Tips

The outboard motor is designed to supply dependable power to approved motor craft in fresh water only.

Equiptment Safety

  • Keep sparks and flames away from batteries.
  • Never place metal object across battery posts. To check for charge use a voltmeter or hydrometer.
  • Transport with batteries disconnected from outboard.
  • Risk of Electrical Shock. Do not touch un-insulated battery terminals, connectors, or wires.
  • Prior to wiring the batteries, ensure that the battery harness is unplugged from the outboard.
  • Stop the motor and remove safety lanyard from SAFETY/MOTOR STOP switch before tilting.
  • Do not transport the boat with the outboard in the UP position.
  • Do not leave the operator’s station with the safety lanyard still connected to the outboard. Always stop the outboard before leaving the operator’s station of the board.

Personal Safety

  • Always read the manufacturer's operator manual and carefully follow all safety and operation rules.
  • Avoid contact with propeller. Keep people and pets away from propeller while the outboard is operating.
  • Do not wear loose-fitting clothing, dangling drawstrings or items, which could become caught.
  • Remove all jewelry when working on the batteries or electrical systems.
