Gas Outboard Motor Safety Tips
The outboard motor is designed to supply dependable power to approved motor craft in fresh water only.
Equipment Safety
- Add fuel only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.
- Place portable fuel tank on the ground when filling. Never fill it when it’s in the boat or a vehicle.
- Do not over tighten caps and fittings and replace if worn or damaged.
- Position the gas tank so the filler cap vent is higher than the fuel level.
- When starting the engine, check that the fuel line is properly connected to the engine.
- Never start the engine when near open flammable liquids or gas or LP leaks.
- Do not allow debris to accumulate around the muffler and cylinder area.
Personal Safety
- Always read the manufacturer's operator manual and carefully follow all safety and operation rules.
- Avoid contact with the propeller. Keep people and pets away from the propeller when the engine is operating.
- Always operate the outboard with the safety lanyard clipped to the SAFETY/ENGINE STOP SWITCH and attached to the operator.
- Every person on board must wear and use a U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD).
